how to tune the banjo and the basics of clawhammer
techniques, sometimes described as "frailing,"
"rapping," and "drop thumb." Fingering techniques such
as "pull offs," "hammers," and "slides," are explained
and demonstrated and an easy tune is taught in the
first DVD. The second DVD in the series teaches how to
read banjo "tabs," which are written music for the
banjo.
Ryan also patiently teaches the 19 different banjo tunes which are on the Great Bay Stomp
banjo CD which was highly rated by the Old Time Herald. Detailed instructions are given
for 6 different banjo tunings, including A, double D, open D, and modal tunings. The tunes
range in difficulty from easy to advanced. Included is the Banjo Tab Book with
transcriptions of all 19 tunes plus lore about the tunes and a written description of the
playing techniques used in clawhammer banjo. The price for the complete kit is $59.95
